Drake - If You're Reading This Its Too Late (Mixtape/Album review)

14:02 Posted by zain No comments

Sup its your boy Zain and its time for another review. This week its the boy, 6 God, Champagne, Drizzy Drake. Dropping a gem for us, this is an artist with no introduction needed, you're aware of him and even if you hate him there are records you have to admire, whether it be on the radio or if it were the old 'mixtape drake' you appreciate what he's done for the culture. Im a huge Drake fan but i will try to be real unbiased in this review.

Legend

"OH MY GOD OH MY GOD IF DIE IMA LEGEND"

BOOM, dat ginuwine sample is killin it, shouts out to PND for the production, this project is starting out wonderful. Basically if Drake were to die he would be a Legend, it is very straight forward and poignant. Loving the gun shots btw.

Energy

"I GOT 3 MORTGAGES, 30 MILLION IN TOTAL"

Drake has a lot of enemies, its easy to understand, he's the king right now. this record has a lot of energy indeed, flow is on point and the direction of the track is nice.

Know Yourself

"RUNNIN THRU THA 6IX WITH MY WOES"
W.O.E: Working On Excellence

Man this track has all the hype you want from a track, if there were a single for the project this would be it. it has made waves. Cant wait till Baka get back on the road btw.

10 Bands

Probably my favourite song on the tape, 10 bands, fiddy bands, hunnid bands. lets not even discuss it man oh em gee this record is tight. Heard a snippet of this months ago and i just knew this would be a banger. Cookin with the wri wri wri

No Tellin

"I mean besides Ricky Ross, Aubrey the biggest boss here"

phew, just when you thought the beats couldn't get any more heavy this track comes on, Drake doesn't want to give it all way, theres no tellin.

Madonna

"i saw potential in you from the go, you know that i did"

First track thats dedicated to a lady on this record and the beat is calm, headed to more of an rnb path right now. More ginuwine on this too.

6GOD

"I'LL ADMIT I'LL ADMIT IT"

Indeed he will, the god of the 6 has spoken, Drake dropped this record months back along with the classic How Bout Now & Heat Of The Moment. Its a filler track, great hype song but doesn't live up to the other records on the tape. Nice use of the donkey kong sample tho

*Star67

"Line Blowing up"

Lowkey, the best song on the tape. Just because of its in depth material, you have to look beyond the surface to understand what Drake is talking about. Classic voicemail Drizzy, this record has a nice switch up. Late night driving type.

Preach (Feat PartyNextDoor)

Meh

Wednesday Night Interlude (Feat PartyNextDoor)

"Girl I'm lonellyyyy"

This the type of PND i like, the crooning persian rugs R&B slow jams performer, i really like this record. Has a lot of depth even when PND does his famous runs.

Used To (Feat Lil Wayne)

"THEY DONT LOVE YOU LIKE THEY USED TO"

Besides lil wayne's questionable lyrics, Drake goes hard and i thought this was the same record that was on Waynes sorry 4 the wait but nah this has a new verse, and its fire.

6man

"LIKE IM LOU WILL"

What a tribute, this is a bouncy and captivating beat that instantly takes you back to the club vibe.

Now & Forever

"I CANT BE OUT HERE ON SOME LAID BACK SHIT"

Sounding like a Cudi song, Drake gets on his midnight escapade. Sounds like he just left a love interests house, needing to escape from the daily troubles of finding someone. Getting back on the road

Company (Feat Travi$ Scott)

"IM STILL A CANINE AT HEART IM A DOG"

Probably my second favourite i like this record a lot, its hazy and sounds like a sequel to days in the east. You have some K9 ad-libs and then Travis with his impeccable "a=ajdibwihf I'm a dog, i go ham I'm a hog" honestly a pretty good song with a lot of quotables.

You & The 6

"SHE GOT GOOGLE ALERTS"

Conversations with Drakes mama is interesting, Drake is games of throne with it, he hates being aggressive on the phone with his mama. Its all good, not a personal favourite of mine but i understand the content. its no 'look what you've done' but it serves a similar purpose.

Jungle

"ARE WE STILL GOOD?"

This that classic slow jam drizzy I've been waiting on got damn, this song makes you want to call your former partner and you want to ask her if every things ight, if she needs anything, if theres still mutual appreciation, a closure song, trust me this shit is everything to me.

6pm in New York

"YOU NEED TO ACT YOUR AGE AND NOT YOUR GIRLS AGE"

RIP TYGA basically. This no 5AM but it shows you the boy can still rap and he still needs to vent, there are still things happening that are bothering the boy, its pretty ight. He still has a decade to go with this stuff so step aside and let Drizzy become the GOAT.

Well, there was my unbiased review.

BRING ON VFT6 FAM.
